Metamorphic head honcho Dan Curtin reprises one of his most popular aliases, Purveyors of Fine Funk with ‘Soul Message EP’.
Dan Curtin’s musical journey began almost 25 years ago. From his beginnings in Cleveland, Ohio to his current location in Germany’s Berlin, Dan has delivered a vast number of styles and produced innovative sounds across the electronic spectrum. His impressive discography dates back to 1992 with his first releases on Detroit’s 33 RPM and Belgium’s Buzz, inspiring him to launch his own Metamorphic Recordings. His unwillingness to commit to a singular style was instrumental to his continuously original releases on big players such as Strictly Rhythm and Sublime. In 2003 he made the move to Berlin, which has spawned a string of new releases on fresh labels such as Bass Culture, Holic Trax, Saved, Turquoise Blue and Mobilee. But some of his most revered work is as Purveyors of Fine Funk. Originally launched in the mid-90s over a string of EPs on the likes of Peacefrog and Nepenta, who also released an album in 2001, Purveyors now returns with a new chapter of releases and for the first time Dan will be taking the sound to his DJ sets.
“Purveyors of Fine Funk is my house alter ego, sometimes it’s a collaboration, sometimes not, but it’s always about that funk, house with an edge and intense soul, definitely jacking, sometimes acid and always looking to the future. Now it’s time for Purveyors to finally hit the decks and bring this signature house sound to the club as a DJ set.”
The ‘Soul Message EP’ comprises four tracks, from the twisted disco and funk-fuelled title track, before the tough house of ‘Genius of Touch’, through the glistening Chicago beats of ‘SubAffection’ to the deeply soulful ‘Soul Mode’, Purveyors of Fine Funk is emphatically back!
